Veli Lake Tourist Village
Located where the Veli Lake meets the Arabian Sea, the Veil Tourist Village is one of the most sought after picnic spots in Thiruvananthapuram district. Barely 10km from the capital city, Veli Tourist Village is easily accessible via bus, auto or private vehicles. A well maintained, vibrant garden stands at the southern banks of the Veli lagoon. It is connected to the beach by a floating bridge.
Horse riding, pedal boating, a children's park, a floating restaurant, a swimming pool, aesthetically laid out walk ways and plenty of comfortable seating arrangements make this an ideal picnic spot. The children's park has everything a child can wish for including swings, see-saws, slides, merry-go-rounds, playground climbers and spring riders. There is a conch statue here crafted by the renowned sculptor, Kanayi Kunhiraman which is an attraction for visitors.
The latest addition to the Veli Tourist Village is what is believed to be India's first solar powered miniature train. The train ride that covers a total distance of 2.5km will allow the travellers to enjoy the charm and grace of Veli in all its glory. Modelled after the vintage steam locomotive it even has artificial smoke that chugs out to give it an authentic appearance. The station house of this train too has been modelled in a traditional style and the rail system features every aspect of a real fully equipped rail system including a ticket office, station and tunnel. With three bogies and ample space, the train can accommodate around 45 people on board at a time. The miniature train is sure to create many life long memories for children and adults alike.
